HELLOvintage///1956 DIY Upholstery Manual

I just posted this really cute 1956 DIY manual in the shop. Oregon State University has an Interior Design program which I'm hoping this manual was part of...though it may be affiliated with the now defunct Home Economics major.

If you're into recovering some of that furniture you found at Goodwill with "really good bones" I'd pick this lil guy up. Soft cover, full of black and white photos and really helpful.

*THIS ITEM HAS SOLD*

Thursday Thoughts

1. This little plastic deer sits on my desk at work.  He's been with me since the beginning of my time at Schoolhouse.
2. A new discovery today - sweet and salty Gramma Jan's popcorn. Better than Kettle Corn. I SWEAR!
3. Pretty vintage books at the local Goodwill.
4. Trying out a new color - Pretty grey nail polish.
5. How cute is Jorie's sweater? She found it at Goodwill, altered it and added leather elbow patches. LOVE

Easter is Near

I grew up loving ALL holidays.  My Mom was the queen of making the house feel so special with decorations and treats. Easter is coming and I'm reminded of the easter baskets we always would get filled not only with candy but really nice gifts as well. The candy was always See's truffles with little perfect frosting flowers, dutch mints in beautiful pastels and little jelly things that I have no idea what they were called...but they were GOOD.

We also always worked together to make Bunny Biscotti.  A delicious once baked, orange zest biscotti made in the schape of a bunny rabbit. It had raisins for eyes and sugar sprinkled all over it. It was always a fight to see who'd get the tail and the ears...kinda sick...kinda amazing!

I have some ideas for special little treats will make///definitely the Bunny Biscotti and maybe these sweet little cracked egg succulent planters? How beautiful! Wouldn't an egg crate full of these be the cutest table decoration ever?!?

No F'in Way///The Coolest Record Player Ever

The folks over at CAMP designed this totally amazing record player our of 3 other record players and reclaimed wood. There aren't many things that make me say, "OH MY GOD!" like this did.

Oh how I just want to hang out in my Sunday sweats, drink my coffee and dance around this record player!

Oh and isn't their logo cute? It's like I'm back at Camp Wilani.

A Valentines Tent///

This past Saturday, as an early Valentine's Day treat for Ketch, I turned our bedroom into a romantic tent. It's so funny 'cause yesterday there seemed to be posts all over the place about making indoor tents out of blankets and other things around the house.  I guess we were all in the mood for good 'ol  inexpensive romance.

Tons of pillows and blankets draped over the bed made it uber cozy. I used a staple gun to hang a set of lace curtains and other various linens from the house over our bed. We have lath and plaster walls so putting big hooks in the walls to string up the blankets and sheets was not an option. The staple gun made it so easy. I just made sure to staple along seams so I wasn't putting holes in the middle of my curtains.  Once the tent was up I pulled the curtains back with wooden clothes pins for a view of the tv - but when you get rid of the pins the curtains close and it's our own little gypsy tent.

(The twinkle light ceiling of our tent)

I strung twinkle lights over the top of the tent to make it glow. Some Ikea curtains I had laying around were a perfect tent roof.

I also used my Marconi bulb that I bought forever ago to add some extra ambiance.

This was such a fun surprise. I ended up ordering Thai food and we ate it in our little tent while watching some movies and snugglin all night long.

The funniest thing is that he likes the tent so much, I don't know if I'll ever be allowed to take it down.

Triangles///DIY - Sweater Love///

I will do this to one of my sweaters.

It might have to be stitched on rather than beadazzled, but it will happen.  OOOOO speaking of stitched, wouldn't it be great if it was this same pattern just embroidered?

These images are from a new favorite blog called Charlie. This girl styles herself so well and it seems absolutely effortless.

Handbuilt Repurposed Furniture///

Check out this beautiful repurposed furniture from Modernark out of Tennessee. The modern metal legs mixed with the old barn wood is so organic, streamlined and simply gorgeous. It reminds me of the pallet furniture Ketch built for us. Do I see another DIY project in our future?

Homemade Pallet Furniture for the Deck///

///Our new pallet furniture!!! (The one with the scallops is a bench Ketch built in highschool)///

Ketch made the most badass deck furniture for us this past week. I sent him this article about outdoor chairs hoping it would be inspiration for an indoor bike rack we've been trying to design. Instead it was just inspiration to build a whole set - table and chairs for our back deck. SO EXCITING!

///the planning stages///

The plans for the chairs are available for $10, but Ketch decided to figure it out on his own from the images shown in the article. He said the hardest part was dismantling the pallets. The first chair took one whole day. But once he had the system down the other chair was done in a couple of hours. The table went through a couple different configurations before it was done as well.  He came up with the design for the table completely on his own.

I love these pieces. Very modern feeling - and aside from Ketch's time - totally free!

Now we are just debating about paint v. stain...hmmm.

Chic up that Goodwill Silverware///COLOR

A perfect DIY project

I love this image of silverware from Ladies and Gentlemen.  Now all of their place settings match.  But I can see taking all of my random silver I've collected and simply coating the handle in a beautiful color to make them all suddenly go together. Amazing, wonderful, gloriously thrifty idea!
