So There's This Couch ///

So there's this couch...I think about it often. I covet it, I want to snuggle it, maybe pet it a little. It's Jorie's couch and it's the most beautiful bohemian/contemporary piece of furniture that's ever been found at the goodwill bins. 

Jorie and I found it on one of our regular, slightly addictive and much needed bins trips. When we spotted it we were on opposite sides of the warehouse, latex gloved and scouring for little cheap items. Then the cart came out...and like moths to a flame, a perfect triangle, Jorie, myself and the couch found each other. The leather is just enough worn in, the wood is a really neutral and natural color. The only thing is the back looks like someone MIGHT have been murdered up against it...but we decided to assume some amazing party was happening around this couch and a bottle of wine got spilled. Yes, that must be what happened. Now if you don't know what the bins are, they're basically goodwill overflow - too many donations, too little square footage.  Latex gloves are mandatory and people watching is supreme. It's a warehouse location where nothing is tagged and everything is sold by weight (except for furniture). So clothes end up being pennies and couches like this lil number end up costing $25. 

Just had to share this perfect couch...perfect.

HELLOvintage///1956 DIY Upholstery Manual

 

I just posted this really cute 1956 DIY manual in the shop. Oregon State University has an Interior Design program which I'm hoping this manual was part of...though it may be affiliated with the now defunct Home Economics major.

If you're into recovering some of that furniture you found at Goodwill with "really good bones" I'd pick this lil guy up. Soft cover, full of black and white photos and really helpful.

Taking Note///Little Details I LOVE

I love that grunge is back.  I love that it's simple.  It's about showing off one asset and layering over the others. It's about mystery. I feel that in both of these looks.

 

Long, touseled hair - muted tones - body skimming fabrid - leather.

(Just as a note - I'm vegetarian, but I do wear leather - vintage leather. I see it as recycling. Loving that product until it can't possibly be loved any more is important to me. )

 

High tops - skinny jeans - vintage tee - VINTAGE fur - friendship bracelets - hangover sunglasses.

Handbuilt Repurposed Furniture///

Check out this beautiful repurposed furniture from Modernark out of Tennessee. The modern metal legs mixed with the old barn wood is so organic, streamlined and simply gorgeous. It reminds me of the pallet furniture Ketch built for us. Do I see another DIY project in our future?

Fur...in a good way!

Im pretty anti fur (I had a faux fur themed birthday party)...but I'm pretty into these situations:

Design Sponge did an awesome feature on some furry makeovers. What do you think? I'm a pretty big fan.

Neato Private Desk!

Don't copy me! Will be something I will never have to yell at the little boy next to me ever again! Gosh this is a cute little desk! I can see it in my little desk nook right now!


Check out the great little hole for cords so everything can stay powered and still be organized and neat. Such a great design by Gam Fratesi.

I love this room. The simple white walls, the mid century furniture, but best of all - the oil portraits on the wall. (I just kinda wish the testicles hanging from the ceiling could go away)
