A Waterfall Braid///revised

I've been doing my own take on a waterfall braid recently.

I begin with a french braid near my right temple and slowly let it drape down to a braid on my left.

I only add hair from the top and let the hair around the nape of my neck fall loosely.  So instead of adding hair with each plate like you would with a standard french braid I only add hair every other plate.  So easy, it takes literally five minutes.

Undercut and Inspired///

So, about a month ago I went ahead and did it - I undercut my hair.  This may be one of the first photos that actually displays it well. I feel like most of the time it just doesn't show up. I really loving it...I tend to get bored with long hair so this feels like such a good way to switch it up and still feel feminine.

Also, does this photo feel similar to the piece I drew below?  I'm taking self portraits of myself for a pen and ink series I'm doing. More to come...

I do a lot of the side twist instead of a side braid...but have never seen it styled like this before.

Check out that braid. Takes my back to being 5. But paired with her sophisticated chiffon blouse it looks sweet and elegant. 

Oh and that bag! That leather bag! I saw so many leather duffles like this at the Melrose Flea Market in crazy booths like this. 

 

Most were already loved and worn. So beautiful and only $40 something.

Crown of Braids

The Open Season fashion show last night totally surpassed my expectations. I was a little under the weather so I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I could have, but beautiful fashion (and some misses too) were prevalent. Thank god there were coolers of Vitamin Water all over to keep me hydrated. I think my 2 girlfriends and those vitamin waters were the only things that made the heat of hundreds of people and standing for 2 hours ok. 

I tried out the braids and put my own little twist on it with 3 little bobby pins to hold back my bangs.

 The end of the night and a little exhausted looking.

Love having a reason to dress up other than work or a bar thing. 

Open Season 2011///A Portland Fashion Show

I'm stoked for the Open Season fashion show tonight. 

Featuring Leanne Marshall and Gretchen Jones of Project Runway fame as well as some of my other favorite 

Portland designers. 

I'm stoked to see what Bridge and Burn puts out this year. 

And if Lindsey Reif's clothes are as rad as her website's opening page I'll be all hers.

I'll be doing my hair like this beautiful lady from one of Jo's rad hair tutorials and pairing it will an amazing vintage skirt I picked up this week. The fabric looks like a paint by numbers painting! I die.

Snippets of Sunday

Aside from a nice little brunch a lot of my day has been spent on my green couch. Research paired with reality tv makes for an excellent Sunday afternoon.

1. Leather wrap bracelets make really cute hair ties.

2. I picked up that glass shade and now am using it as a pretty bell jar for my tillandsia.

3. I went and put a bird on it...does that make me art?

4. Friendship bracelet from my girlfriend who's moving away. Big bowl of tear soup.

5. Zippers make these leggings my favorite and my boyfriends snuggle enemy. I guess they're poky.

Twisted Buns Turn Into Perfect Loose Curls///

A while back I posted about this great tutorial for 3 messy buns.  I've been doing this style a lot lately because it is sooo easy!

From Buns to Rachel Bilson style curls.

But the best benefit? Loose beautiful curls the next day. I have stick straight hair naturally and even my hair will keep the curl with this method. I even will just put them in at night (I have a tough head) and the curls just turn out more like beautiful loose waves the next morning. 

To Achieve Beautiful Loose Curls:

1. Follow the twisted buns hair tutorial. Hair can be wet or dry.

2. Allows buns to be in for at least 8 hours (a full work day or a full nights sleep)

3. Take out bobby pins and allow buns to naturally fall.

4. Use your fingers to separate each curl (there are three).

5. I use a silicon gel on my roots to help with bed head flyaways and spray the curls with a light hair spray to set. 

These loose curls that start at your jaw line look totally rad with balayage.

Hair Tutorial

I love this hair tutorial that's over at Cup of Jo.

It's the perfect do to show off my new bayalage (darker on top, lighter on the bottom) dye job.

I've heard lots of names circulating around for this look: Lighter hair on the bottom with darker roots. One person even said she called it Kurt Cobain hair so her stylist could know what she wanted. 

Rachel Bilson does it perfectly, as does Alexa Chung and Drew Barrymore.

All I know is I need it, I want it, it's going to happen. I've been wanting it for too long. I mean this is my third post about it. 

Maybe the 3rd time is the charm.
