Amazing Product: Translucent Concrete

"There are always cool new things landing on the market that catch my eye, but are truly as remarkable as the one I found today—translucent concrete! That’s right translucent concrete. The new product called LitraCon™ was invented in 2001 by Hungarian Architect Áron Losonczi who founded the company in 2004, that now holds the patents and manufactures the product for architectural purpose. The product is actually a combination of optical fibers and fine concrete. It can be produced as prefabricated building blocks and panels. Due to the small size of the fibers, they blend into concrete becoming a component of the material giving it its linen like visual quality.

Because the blocks retain their structural integrity you could literally build an entire structure out of this material. The price probably prohibits it (at least at this time), but I can imagine an entire house built made of LItraCon that would be the perfect passive solar home. Allowing in natural sunlight during the day while capturing its heat. Then at night the homes interior lights would make the entire structure appear to glow, meaning no need for exterior house lights."
