This is Jorie the skunk and me, the shooting star...is this how I stand in real life? FML

"I must learn to love the fool in me--the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my fool."

Eggpress///Schoolhouse Electric's New Tenant

Loving the photos from Portland's own Work Place. They recently highlighted Egg Press, a local letterpress company who's beautiful studio space is located in the new Schoolhouse Electric factory on 21st and Nicolai.

I had the pleasure of working with Kara and Tess over the summer while developing some of our new products at Schoolhouse and can't say enough good things about them - two uber genuine people overflowing with positive energy, style and design talents.

Work Place had some nice words as well...
"They recently partnered with Schoolhouse Electric and Adam Arnold (talk about a dream team..) to create some unique and wonderfully Portland-esque slip covers, which will soon be available through Schoolhouse Electric's new retail space."

Our new Schoolhouse Electric showroom opens Nov. 7th and I'll be there to greet you and show you all our new jazz. Come check it.

Portland Streets

Had a doctors appointment on Tuesday...on my bike ride home I saw this gem hiding in the shadows created by the afternoon sun. I'm a sucker for street art and this piece on the Failing walking bridge in NE Portland took my breath away.

Beautiful.

Soul Night///Tracks of My Tears

This has been my all time favorite soul song since I was a kid. Smoky's version will always be my favorite, but today I'm jamming to some other favorite artists that have covered this classic.

The OG - Smoky Robinson 1965

Linda Ronstadt, I love her...I listen to this one on vinyl whenever I can.

Dolly's cover she did in 2008.

Gavin Degraw did a rad mashup of Tracks and another favorite, Cupid by Sam Cooke.

And sorry, but who doesn't love a little BoysIIMen (ABC, BBD)

Chalkboard Art///

This week I was assigned the task of doing the chalkboard art for our new showroom that will be opening up Nov. 7th.

I repainted the chalkboard with a couple coats of chalkboard spray paint and did a chalk layer that I then rubbed off.  This gives the chalkboard some grip so there aren't slippery spots that can mess up one's artwork.

Simple supplies: Chalkpens, high quality chalk pastels and classic chalkboard chalk for the beginning outline work.

Planning sheet and pen testing.

Laying out the artwork to scale with some lines.

I then went over the chalk with a white chalk pen that gives the chalkboard a really clean appearance that is impossible with normal chalk.

Once the art is outlined with chalk pen and filled in with pastels all of the beginning rough outlines get wiped away.

I then went around the logo with black chalk pastels to really make the white pop.

Come check it out Nov. 7th in the new showroom on 21st and Nicolai in Porltand!

Givenchy anyone?

Thinking about purchasing some fabric paint and putting scary animals on sweatshirts. I'm tired of wolves howling at moons.

Matilde///A Short By Jeana Sohn

I've posted about Jeana's Sohn's amazing photography blog, Closet Visit before.  Her photography of outstanding closets and the women behind them lead her into another adventure...short films.

Enjoy her second film, Matilde. Starring the simply beautiful Matilde Riccardi as the almost, "little red riding hood" or "alice in wonderland" of the story. It's dreamy and makes me wish I could live in a world of clothes and sweets if not for forever at least for a little while.

String and Swings /// Art by Debbie Smyth

I've been dreaming of swinging on swingsets lately.  But I don't think that's the only reason I've completely fallen in love with Debbie Smith's embroidered paper pieces.

I don't know what it is about this jam but I can't get it out of my head.

Papa in his 20's

During a trip to Eugene a couple years ago my Dad passed these old photos on to me. The sweet boy in these photos is my Dad - he's in his early 20's and it's the 1970's.   The below shot sits on my shelf and I look at it every day ~ sometimes in amazement at how much my Dad could be any one of my guy friends today.

We are all the same.

My Dad and his bud while they lived in Hawaii.

Rusted car/no back window/palm trees...Hawaii life.

Some Old Film///

Just got this roll scanned in from the holidays last year and our road trip from Oregon to California. Looking at these photos and seeing holiday commercials on the tv are making me happy. It's only Halloween and all this cheer just makes me want to savor this holiday season. I'm ready to breath in every spice, cooking smell and fresh pine scent I can.
