Moccasin Love ///

My baby girl Haley of Moccasin Telegraph will be here in Portland this weekend! I'm going away for most of it on a magical adventure...but oh I can't wait to kiss her sweet face if even for a moment!

This pic is back from june when I was in LA. This sweet little teepee is on Faye's patio.

Tonight I'm Making///Corn Ceviche

My sister Sarah's birthday is tonight and we'll be having a white picnic at the Skidmore Bluffs. I'm going to bring some ceviche (which I never get to eat btdubs cause I'm a veg) that looks totally rad from a little blog called Sprouted Kitchen.
**POST EDIT***
Just want to say this was one of the easiest recipes ever. So quick and freaking delicious. I ended up using 3 ears of corn because I wanted there to be enough for 10 people. This is totally a perfect picnic salad.

Corn Ceviche
2 Farmstand Corn Cobs
Zest and Juice of one Lime
1 Generous Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (use the good stuff)
1 Green Onion, finely chopped
1 Serrano Chile, seeded and minced
1/4 Cup Chopped Cilantro*
1/4 tsp. Sea Salt
1. Shuck the corn and use a sharp knife to cut off the corn kernels from all sides. Put them in a mixing bowl.
2. Add the zest and juice of the lime, good olive oil, green onion, serrano and stir to coat. Add the cilantro and sea salt and give it another stir. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes before eating for the flavors to blend. Taste for salt. Keep in a covered container in the fridge, it gets slightly more spicy with age.
* I know there are people who despise cilantro, but don’t let that deter you from making this. You could substitute 2 Tbsp. finely chopped, fresh oregano leaves. It won’t be quite as ‘mexican’ tasting, but it does need a fresh herb, and this is the second best option.

come back weekend ///

I had a really good weekend. This was just the beginning...

Cat and I planned on taking pictures at the end of the night too ... let's just say we were too lost in the magic. With a broken phone and Portland rain starting I'm ready for the magic to come back already.

Styling ///

Assisted my amazing-photographer-friend, Cat, and styled her photo shoot for my other amazing and totally gorgeous friend, Ashley, last Friday.

So much fun and she looks so beautiful in that golden hour light!

See more of the photos over on Cat's blog

Wishing my friend Ashley all the luck in the world in her quest towards a modeling career.

Blue and My Chalkboard ///

My old roommate gave me this old chalkboard when he moved out. It tends to depict everything that's going on in our livee at the moment.

...and be a really nice backdrop for my kitty Blue.

Screaming Deal

Tried these on when they were full price and I couldn't do it...not for a plastic clog. But for thirteen bucks I think I can wear them forever!

60's Inspired///Vanessa Jackman and MiH Jeans

I'm feeling totally inspired by big hair and heavy eyeliner after the little film shoot I participated in. I love her styling so much it hurts a little.

15 Genres, 1 Film ///

I took part in a short film over the weekend being made by the PDX Film Collective. Our genre for the portion I was in was 60's horror movie, (think Psycho) - but it will be mashed up with everything from noir to western. Rad.

Here are some shots from the shoot. It was so fun to tease my hair and put on that heavy eye liner. Made me wish Portland was more of a "dress up" versus "dressed down" city.

Love this radio.

Shot planning.

Rad props. Love the clown with donuts.

Leif directing our scene.

Just us girls.

The creepy fortune telling scene. Love.

Can't wait to see the other genres juxtaposed against our creepy horror movie.

Westerly, Easterly///

Loving Eleanor Pritchard's new 2011-2012 line. Her Westerly/Easterly design is graphically stunning. These are 100% wool blankets and totally hearken back to vintage Pendleton blankets.

We Make Carpets///

Amazing "carpets" from The Dutch design trio that form the collective We Make Carpets are Marcia Nolte, Stijn van der Vleuten and Bob Waardenburg.  These carpets are made from normal household items and the patterns are stunning.

Urban Farming Tools///

Beautiful gardening tools for the urban gardener from mirko ihrig. Love the waxed canvas backpack for easy storage.

"The five-piece "Urban Farming Tools"-set comes with a backpack in which all the tools find their place. The detachable handle of the bigger tools can be strapped to the outside of the backpack, so you can easily transport everything on the way to your plot."

Have A Nice Weekend

I unexpectedly have a three day weekend so I started it off right with a little girls date night at Dig A Pony, a new bar here in Portland. Make sure to order the large sangria.

Tonight there's a meteor shower from 2am to dawn so I'll be up laaaatttttte which means tomorrow I'll be doing a lot of snuggling with my boy Blue...If you haven't met Blue before, this is him...he's a pimp and obviously he's open for business.

I also will be having a little fun dressing up for a little role in a beatnik-cocktail party-horror film. Can't wait.

-All the love in the Universe,

Katey

Portland's Rooftop Cinema

Last night a group of us saw The Outsiders on the rooftop of a parking garage in downtown Portland.  The films are put on through the NWFilmCenter's Top Down Rooftop Cinema and there are a few more dates before the summer ends. It was beautiful out, the sunset was all shades of pink and purple and we drank beer and wine  and ate Junior Mints while watching classic movie (which I'd never seen).

I finally know where the line, "Stay golden Pony Boy" comes from and it just makes me want to watch Stepbrothers. haha.
