A Clean and Bright Living Room///

Here's a mood board I created for a local Portland Family's living room that I'm designing.

Victorian architecture makes the space feel dark at times - 90's revamps from previous owners make the space feel dated. The couple has a traditional aesthetic that's been effected by 3 kids keeping them very busy! They are ready for a little style in their lives again while still keeping the space uber functional. I am lightening and brightening the room with a mix of traditional and contemporary styles in a mix of neutrals and blues with touches of gold and red.

10 Questions To Take Your Home From Good To Great

I love the below article from Apartment Therapy. Serious things to think about that really do make a home comfortable for everyone and take a home from ok to wonderful.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I wake up in the morning feeling truly rested? While there are a whole bunch of reasons I might toss and turn at night, a clean and serene bedroom certainly helps me feel at ease. If you've been sleeping fitfully, perhaps it's time for some new bedding. Updating your bed with a down or Tempurpedic mattress topper, some new pillows (I'm loving Ikea's Gosa Pinja pillows for side sleepers) and new bedding (try cozy flannel for winter, smooth cool sateen for summer) can make a big difference in your sleep patterns. For problem sleepers, try some of these tips for bedding down with Mr. Sandman.
Can I play music in your home, including in the bedroom and the bath? Sound, like scent, is one of those elusive layers in a home that you don't recognize as important until there's something annoying, like loud neighbors or a blaring car alarm, to jolt you. Even if you're a rock or hard core fanatic, don't limit your in-home soundtrack. Opera on Sunday mornings, soul for cleaning, power ballads while showering. Check out our many amazing soundtrack posts, including ones to cook by.
Do I have a comfortable spot in my home where I can read, talk on the phone, even nap, that is not my bed? If the most comfortable spot in your home is your bed, it's time to rethink things. A comfy chair in the corner of the bedroom, extra pillows on the couch, a floor cushion by a sunny window, an ottoman pulled up to the sofa, a throw near a drafty window, angling a daybed to catch the afternoon light, are all ways to make a spot more inviting.
Can I walk around my house barefoot? While we're not advocating a shoes off policy (though your home may stay cleaner if you do), the rugs should feel nice on the feet, the floors clean and smooth. It seems like a chore but I do a super fast damp mop on my wooden floors every morning (really superfast. And yes, sometimes I even make airplane noises!) with a old rag tucked into a Swiffer mop and spritzed with a little Mrs. Myers Lavender all-purpose spray.

Does my home smell good? That little mopping habit not only keeps my floors clean, it also keeps my home smelling nice. Cleansers, a scented candle, opening the windows, cooking -- these all bring a layer of scent into your home.
Is there a convenient spot for a guest to put down a coat or hang a bag? How about one for yourself? If you don't already have one, consider establishing a landing strip in your home near your front door. This alone can do a lot towards alleviating a clutter takeover in your home.

How about a spot that I feel comfortable entertaining a guest? Maybe you spend a lot of time in your home alone, maybe you hate having anyone over, but when you do, step back and take a look at how comfortable someone is. Where do they choose to sit? You can learn a lot about your home from a visitor. You don't need a formal living room, just two chairs with someplace to put down a glass of water.
Can I vary the mood in my home with lighting to serve that room's functions? There should be reading lights within easy reach of the bed or sofa, enough light in the kitchen to chop by or peer into the back of your pantry. If you're always squinting, time to consider a well-place lamp or at least the wattage of your lightbulbs. Before you make any major changes in your home, invest in some lighting. That may be all the work you need.
How organized is my home? Is your clothing closet well-organized enough that you can get dressed in 15 minutes? Do you have the makings of quick meal to feed an unexpected guest? What about your bathroom? Are all the things you need easily accessible or do you have so many things to take out and put away in the morning that you create a tornado that you then dread putting away?
And, perhaps most importantly, do I feel happy walking into your home? Are you proud of your home? Your home should make you smile to be there.

Design you own throw///Gotta love Jonathan Adler

I've always been a big fan of Jonathan Adler. I have seen his "Design Your Own" series before, but had never seen this cute triangle throw.

I put this one together in my favorite colors of the moment. But there are tons of other combinations possible.

Hey y'all, my birthday is coming up!

Waxed Canvas Lunch Tote///

I try to make my own lunch everyday.  It usually involves me actually DRIVING home to make a lunch since I am relatively close to work.  Not exactly the greenest option out there and not sure if it's really helping my pocket book either since I'm spending the $ on gas.

This lil waxed canvas tote from Artifact Bags makes me want to remember to pack a lunch everday. It's so perfect.

Triangles///DIY - Sweater Love///

I will do this to one of my sweaters.

It might have to be stitched on rather than beadazzled, but it will happen.  OOOOO speaking of stitched, wouldn't it be great if it was this same pattern just embroidered?

These images are from a new favorite blog called Charlie. This girl styles herself so well and it seems absolutely effortless.

Ombre///Balayage///Whatever this hairdo is called!?!?///

I've heard lots of names circulating around for this look: Lighter hair on the bottom with darker roots. One person even said she called it Kurt Cobain hair so her stylist could know what she wanted.

Rachel Bilson does it perfectly, as does Alexa Chung and Drew Barrymore.

All I know is I need it, I want it, it's going to happen. I've been wanting it for too long. I mean this is my third post about it.

Maybe the 3rd time is the charm.

Romantic, Beachside Teepee

My birthday is coming up and we had plans to go to the beach.  The Oregon coast has some magical days in February where it's clear and beautiful and no coat is necessary. The photos of a sweet makeshift teepee are making me hope we make the hour and a half drive even more.

Vintage Shopping in Portland///Seek the Unique

I went into Seek the Unique today with the plans of just checking it out and maybe taking a couple snapshots for a client. But this store is so cool that I have to share it with you.

Vintage and repurposed pieces are all strung about the store in what seems like a hap hazard manner, but the space is actually very carefully laid out and curated. Industrial, modern, ethnic and extravagant pieces are all mixed together in this beautiful little shop. Items range in price from a couple $ for small items to a couple thousand for the antiques and larger furniture. Sturdy wooden shop tables run in the couple hundred dollar range and are screaming to be put in my kitchen.

Enjoy some pretty pictures /// and if you're ever in Portland, it's worth a look!

Triangles///Made By Hank

What sweet bags these are. If I didn't already have a bunch of geometric, southwest-inspired bags I would want this one. Heavy duty canvas, recycled leather and triangles triangles triangles. I even love her tags!

Made by Hank's shop is definitely worth checking out.

BIKE///Crocheted Guards

Ketch is building me a bike for my birthday. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I've had my eye on all of the little accessories I'll need to get. These guys I definately wouldn't need - but how cute would crocheted Dress Guards bySimeli be on a little white bike with brown leather details?

This totally rad couple (who had some great wedding tents) used a revamped VW Bus for their wedding transportation. I feel like they are my soul mates over in England.

Check out the wood paneling!

My NEW Iphone Case///Tovicorrie

My bestie Shawn got me the greatest little present for Christmas. The last gift of Christmas arrived yesterday in the mail via Royal Post from the UK. What the heck could it be?

I was stoked when it was the Triangle Leather Iphone case from Tovicorrie, an awesome little etsy shop. It took quite a bit of time to get here via post but was totally worht the wait since it only cost a couple dollars to ship.

I had really bad luck with my last Iphone case from Vers. Though the bamboo looked so cool, it only took one day to crack the thing.

Lether doesn't break. I'm in love.
