Taffeta Beauty///Wedding Dresses
(just because this is a post on wedding dresses does not in any way mean i am getting married...yet)
I can't get over these wedding dresses by Maria Lucia Hohan. The bodice on this dress is to die for, but every dress with the tulle, the taffeta, the ethereal nature is simply soo beautiful///

Film in Vancouver
My friend Cortney took these of us at the Hastings Skate Park in Vancouver, BC over the weekend. I love film, I miss film. The saturation is just so different than digital. Why don't I ever use film anymore?

Dreamy///Little Drifters
Off to sea/// I love this photo and how small and courageous this little boat looks heading off into the wild open ocean. Utter personification.
I just found out about the neatest little event that happened over the weekend in Vancouver while I was up there visiting. Lenny, the man who made this little drifter takes photos of the many driftwood and found object boats that he makes while wandering the beaches. The folks over at booooooom were so inspired they planned a community event on the beach in Vancouver where everyone and anyone could come out and build their own little drifter. How pretty it must have been with them all drifting off to sea///wish I could have been there.

Dave Mead///Photography from the World Beard & Moustache Competition
Check out these bearded studs. These rad portraits were taken by Dave Mead at the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championship. I can see a line of these on my wall...probably the only time I will ever want photographs of strange men decorating my home. But I think in this situation, with mustaches involved, it is perfection.
Home from Canada///
I just got back from a great little weekend adventure to see Ketch in Vancouver, BC. He's been up there building a BMX park for the last couple weeks. This BMX park is amazing, right on the water with a view of downtown. I'm so proud and happy for him that he was able to be involved. We kept busy the whole time - walking up and down Commercial Street near where we were staying. It has some great restaurants and vintage stores. The best sushi I've had in a long time was on Commercial Street at a little whole in wall called Sake Maki. Can you say Purple Yam Tempura roll with Mango, Avocado and black sesame dressing? I die! We also shopped Broadway and Main which seems to be the hipper area in terms of clothing stores and Gas town which has some pretty cute places too but not necessarily as easily navigable. Saturday night was the pinnacle of the weekend when we got to watch the grand finale of the world fireworks competition that had been going on all week. Countries from all over the globe competed with shows better than I've ever seen complete with a soundtrack pumped through speakers placed in various parks around the city. On another exciting note, ketch and I officially decided to start shopping for a place sans roommates. Just Ketch, me and the kitties...wish us luck! All in all it was really a perfect weekend.
Outside of Dick's Drive-In in Seattle. Nothing on the menu over $2.50 and they send they're employees to college with a reimbursement program. What a rad company.
My friend Alex mowing down on a Dick's Hamburger. He used to live in Seattle and had to enjoy the $1.20 Hamburger like he did in old times.
Vancouver - Hastings skate park. The beautiful mountain range seems to surround the city. This is not the park ketch is building but a necessary destination on a trip with two boys who love BMX.
A view of downtown from Granville Island.
Granville Island has the most amazing open air shopping area that sells amazing food. I couldn't get enough of the pink and white striped pasta and piles of fruit.
Amethyst from the Crystal Store on Granville Island. It's my birthstone and this one was the size of me.
Only in Canada. Can this be our flag, please?
Sporting my new to me backpack that I thrifted at a Value Village in Vancouver. I also picked up a vintage Brownie camera that I'm excited to put to use. But shopping didn't stop at the thrift stores - I happened upon my dream store which I didn't think I was going to get to see and picked up and amazing purse and diamond shaped glass vase which were both totally affordable. I'll post more on all of my loot later!
Ketch and I with our Kinder Surprise Eggs! These are my favorite chocolates which are literally impossible to find in the US because for some reason they thinks its unsafe to have toys inside of food. WTF.
The most beautiful installation art I've ever seen. This was back in Seattle, on my way home I had a bit of a layover at the train station and decided to wander. Outside of Grand Central Bakery (a Portland staple as well) there was this beautiful paper doily hung in the trees. How can I make this happen in my backyard?

J CREW///video
J Crew has a genius and seemingly effortless way of styling their clothing. This video is super duper cute and gives me load of inspiration.
I want: those strappy sandals, that striped shirt and THOSE LEGS! Well if I can't have the last one, I will at least be well dressed.

Friends are Fuel for the Fire///
Sometimes a girl just needs to relax. And whats better than relaxing naked on a beach with two of my best friends? Our white asses all got burned, but the giggles and naked memories, including a man with a totally awkward permanent erection made it totally worth it.
Mixing Styles///Tulip Table and Traditional
So simple, yet so beautiful. I have always had an adoration for the Tulip Table and will someday own one. Even if it just the IKEA version. I love pairing the table with non matching chairs. Too much tulip can be overkill. There is a balance to the sleek bright white table being paired with a natural wood. I also love the painted floor. I just researched floor paint and found some great low VOC options. I love this look, it is simple, comfortable and beautiful. This is a situation where well designed furniture is all you need to have a space that looks amazing.

Friends are Home///
Erin, Lauren and I were all fast friends at Interior Design School. We clung to each other for support, esteem boosts and perspective. Erin and Lauren have recently become roommates and even though JUST moved in, their apartment already feel like a home.

Color///Wood
Where would I put these? I have no idea, but they're so simple and beautiful and totally remind me of rummy sticks from my days at summer camp. maybe they could be mounted on a wall or laid out nicely on a tray on a coffee table? Hmmm
I found these via Design for Mankind. They are made by Ginette Lapalme and she even turned the design into a tshirt which means I'll probably be able to buy it as a print at some point. Her shop is "coming soon," can't wait.

I need help planning my weekend///Vancouver, BC

I'm headed to BC for a long weekend to visit Ketch. Hoping to grab a hotel on Saturday night and stay with friends the rest of the time. We'll get some touristy stuff in too since Brad is mainly working and partying - not much time for boat rides and such. Haha.
So I need help! No idea what to do and Ketch isn't much of a planner. If I want my weekend to work out I feel like I should have some ideas. But I'm blank and tired after planning Big Sur.
So dear, lovely people - Any hotel/sightseeing/food recommendations?

My girl Haley is rocking the posters over at Doug Fir///love!
Below is the beautiful girl after her birthday dinner at The Farm. The restaurant is rad serving up locally sourced, deliciously fresh plates. They also have a large bulbed twinkle lights strung about.

Make sure to order the cheeseball. My friend who cooks at Toro Bravo says it's perfect bread season. I guess when it's hot out bread get a nice crispy crust while staying moist inside. Something that doesn't happen in the wet fall, winter and spring months.

Ketchup///Leaving for Canada
Brad just got an amazing opportunity to work on a BMX park that's being built up in Vancouver, BC. It's so awesome and I'm so happy for him...but shoot, I'm going to be a lonely girl without him for the next couple of weeks.
(This image is of the beloved Grotto here in Portland - B worked hard on this site all of last year)
I guess I should take the opportunity to do things I don't always do because I fill up a lot of my free time hanging out with him:
Sleep- Finish a book
- Create some art - maybe finish the painting I've been working on.
Hang out with my sisterGirl timeHang out with some old work friends I never see any more and maybe even stop by the old restaurant job.- Paint the wall in my bedroom
Ride the bike that's sitting in my basement- Finish editing the photos from our California Trip and get some photos PRINTED - I never do this anymore
- Hang photos on newly painted wall
- Go dancing one night
- Garden
- Finish Brad's birthday present I never got around to finishing - Since Sneaky Pete is in Canada he won't be lingering at the top of the stairs trying to catch a glimpse.
- Get a Martini & A Manicure at Beauty Bar
- Celebrate Bastille Day on N. Williams this weekend! NOT POSSIBLE - I ENDED UP WORKING :(
- Watch the sunset from the bluffs
- Go to the Rose Garden and check out the blooms
THRIFT
I'll miss you puzzle piece. Love, K
