DREAMING OF BEACHES///countdown to road trip

We leave tonight for California...by tomorrow afternoon we'll be hugging the curves of highway 101 on our way to Big Sur and then LA. I can't focus on anything at work today. My head is just full of selfish fantasies involving sun drenched beaches.

These photos are from the amazing Spanish photographer Yosigo via the pretty rad BMX site Def Grip. This site is not the norm when it comes to BMX blogs. The posts focus on art, design, fashion, travel and of course BMX. Ok Ketch, I can get into this little bike thing.

THRIFT SCORE////Wall Art

/////
Here's lil white owl with some of my thrift store finds from the weekend. All for under $20. BOOM.

Here is the perfect American Flag, the kind of thing you can never actually look for, you just come up on. It is cotton with shaggy yellowed edges which means it probably outside of a building for 30 years.
/////

This is a 1966 fabric calendar that I love. The image is sweet and picturesque.
/////
I've been on the hunt for portraits lately. This image of a young gypsy girl is the first painting in my portrait collection.

And last but not least on the far right is my favorite piece that I found. A very old black and white of photograph of a native american woman and her teepee. She's carrying wood on her back and the ground is covered with snow. I ode to simpler, harder times.

Any recommendations on how to hang all of these? I don't know where to start.

Vintage Jeans///On the Hunt

Every time I hit up the local Goodwill lately I arrive with dreams of denim and leave completely disheartened. I really just want jeans that look like the ones in this picture. Loose, but not too loose, faded - but only because someone has already loved the shit out of them. I try soo many jeans on: high rise light wash Mom jeans, old Levi's - all grossness that reminds me of that Saturday Night Live fauxmercial that makes me cry it's so funny. I don't want my butt to look like it goes up to my boobs. I don't want elastic!  I just want a nice lived in pair of relatively loose fitting jeans that don't make me feel like a house.  I'm realizing now that maybe I should be scouring the men's section instead of the women's. Maybe the men's 501's are what I should be trying on...until I find a pair, I'll just have to keep this emaige in my head for inspiration.

Happy Father's Day Papa///

You're the best Daddy 4 girls could ask for. I love you.

Weekends///Project Time

Walking home from work the other day when I came across a whole stockpile of laminated plywood that was being recycled.

I went straight home and grabbed my wheel barrow, rolled it down the street and grabbed all of the wood that looked like it could be used for projects.

Once I got home, I opened a bottle of wine and started drawing.  I love when arts happens out of circumstance.
More to come.

An Inspirational Home///Harriet Grace

Even though photographer Celine Kim's photos of Nikole Harriet's home have been on Design Sponge for a while...I really didn't take notice of them until seeing it all through the eyes of Celine via her blog Bonjour Celine.

Iron & Wine - Boy with a Coin and my new love, Sarah Jaffe.

Summer Reading///any ideas?

I just started reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and am loving it. I have to be honest, I'm a little ADD when it comes to finishing books. I have started a million and finished 1/2 as many. I've heard such good things about this series that I'm feeling pretty dedicated. I also am hoping to go see the movie as soon as possible too...but I can't do that until I finish the 1st book. Pressure!

So what are you reading this summer? Do you have any recommendations?

OXFORDS///wow Target, I'm impressed.

Dear Target,

Thank you for coming out with two styles of economical Oxfords to suit my financial needs right now. They may not be the best quality, but shoot, at least they are cute.

Love,

Katey

Is this Stump Necklace from D&I MANLY? HELP

Would your guy wear this necklace?

Ketch's birthday is coming up and I've thought about getting him a  necklace. I love this engraved stump necklace by Digby & Iona. But I'm not sure how much a guy would love it. The chain seems masculine. I want to get him something that can hang low enough under his teeshirts that it won't show most of the time. Maybe I need to choose something that will lay flatter against his chest though. I wish they engraved this necklace. I'll have to give them a call and put in a special request. * Just called, $210 because it would be considered custom. I feel like that's too much for a necklace I'm not sure about.
What do you guys think? Should I keep hunting? I've thought about a necklace with small metal charms with our initials too. I just want to get him something sentimental this year. Hrrummph.

A Love for Type///Little Brown Pen

Little Brown Pen's Alphabet photography series reminded me of my love for typography. Here's is a collection of letters from all over Paris. I'm inspired.

Camping Inspiration///Photos by Shannen Normen

Ketch and I made some more plans for our trip down the coast today. These photos are what I'm hoping for. Clean air, nature, and maybe a lil snuggling.

These were all taken by Shannen Norman for Lauren + Brian's engagement. They look like they are straight out of the Pendleton catalog.

OK GO///This Too Shall Pass

I always love their videos.

Bog Love///Cold Splinters

A new favorite is Cold Splinters. Beautiful outdoorsy imagery - a lot of which is from the 70's, neat old tunes almost daily and great product recommendations for camping.

Check out these beautiful posters from the 1920's by Dorothy Waugh for the National Parks Service. I would love to have them on my wall!

This blog is basically road trip inspiration for days. Speaking of which, we leave Portland and head west for the coast and then down through California to LA in ONE WEEK! Only one stop before we reach Ventura: Big Sur. I can't wait to take pictures, search through antique shops and get some sun. Any recommendations for places to stop along the way or camping locales to try? Would love your thoughts!

Shop Love///Brook Farm General Store

Over the last couple of years, I've grown an affinity for sustainable products.  Sustainable can mean a lot of things, one of which is well designed, quality products. Not having to buy items over and over again is the easiest way to be sustainable.  Just make the right choice the 1st time you purchase a product and you won't have to keep buying it. That's where Brook Farm General Store comes in. In my opinion, they stock well designed, high quality, every day products that are beautiful and timeless. I already own a couple of the products they sell like the Vers Bamboo Cell Phone Case and Bensimon shoes. Both are two of my favorite things I own.
Here are a few more of my favorites from the general store.

pretty moments///on a mellow monday

The early evening light shown beautifully through the trees and onto the floor at work tonight.

And Adam who has a space in the same building as us made the sweetest little cherry pie. What a beautiful layout for the construction workers who have been tearing up our neighboring street for the past month.

Blog Love///Street Hearts

Streethearts street style blog has some great photography and shows off some really fun Euro fashion.

I love this guy's style, the boots, denim, leather case and hair are awesome. I just wish his coat was a little more masculine. heh heh
