Unhappy Hipsters

takes design magazine photography and puts rediculously funny anectdotes alongside them. Eames, Aalto — her most significant relationships were with dead designers.

Every single one makes me laugh outloud.

Sundance Love

My favorite photo ops from EW's photoshoot at Sundance. Simple and beautiful! My favorite photos are of Amanda Peet and her cute shelf belly, and then the two of Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. Cute, almost candid, perfection.

jersey knotted necklace

Remember me desperately wanting to make this necklace? I finally made my own version! It's a little bigger and chunkier, almost like a skinny scarf. I plan on making many more...maybe incorporating some beads? It definitely needs some perfection. But so fun and easy!I think it would be really cool to use a patterned jersey next time.

Directions:
I simply took an old tshirt and cut it into 3/4" strips which naturally rolled into little tubes due to the jersey fabric. I then sewed the tubes together to get them to the desired length. I wanted to be able to wear it wrapped around my neck twice like the example photo. I then took all of the long pieces and sewed them together on one end. I then took the other end and sewed those pieces to eachother. I then took the two sewn ends and with a couple stitches had a really big loop of jersey. I wanted to put the knot over the section where I stitched all of the pieces together. It took about a yard long stip of jersey to get the knot to the desired size.

So easy and fun! Next time I will try cutting the jersey strips with a roller cutter and cutting each strip a little more narrow to get narrower tubes.

Homemade Pizzas...Mmmm

I love love loooove making homemade pizzas. My personal favorite is baking the dough on the grill, flipping it and then adding all the luscious toppings and letting it grill a little longer. I never make my dough...that will be another day. I usually buy Trader Joe's herby ready made dough or even pillsbury which you don't even have to roll out and is already long and narrow like the grill! I have fantasies about making a whole wheat dough as I am on a bit of a health kick. But for now, I'll just top it with tons of veggies. The Kitchn did a great piece today with TONS of great ideas for pizzas with oodles of flavor. Can't wait to try the butternut squash with ricotta and the breakfast pizza!

Pleated Pants...So I'm trying to figure this out.

Pleated pants are on my list of wants. I've come to like the silhouette seen in these images and I wonder if they will end up being more or less flattering for me than others...I am pear shapped. Small torso with thicker thighs, butt and hips. This will either make me look slopping or nicely drape along my cruves, showing off my slim upper body...or... make me look dowdy and sloppy. What do you think?

NEATO SKEATO! upcycled leather purses

I don't know if many people know this. But I have a bit of a purse fetish. My closet is filled with them. I usually transition constantly between bags. I'm loving these upcycled leather purses from Canadian based Hoakon/Helda. They are made out of vintage leather jackets which I think is such a great idea. I try to avoid buying new leather and this is a really exciting option.

Etsy Love: Yellena

I'm always on the hunt for new art to hang around our big old house. I have dreams of making a art wall full of pretty pieces large and small. These prints by Etsy artiste Yellena are magical. Yes, please. Post Edit: Best part is I just realized she is from Portland! How rad is that? Check out her website too! She's got a lot of great stuff going on including a new line of lighting at Schoolhouse Electric Co. and some shoes for Keds!

Hair Trends: Twenty-Ten

Refinery 29 just put out this nice little look book of hair trends for this year and ways to accomplish the various looks. I'm a fan.

I always burn my toast...

I always burn my toast...and have come to like the flavor of charcoaly bread. Maybe due to the fact that my father always burned his toast and his mother before him. But I do fancy the perfect toast I get on my plate when I'm out to breakfast.

With this inovative transparent heated glass toaster, maybe someday I will have that perfect toast. It's not available yet, but can I get on the waiting list?
